What developed over time into entire racing series began in Japan in the mid-1980s as a competition for tuned road vehicles. Not only private individuals, but also top-class Japanese tuners showcase the effectiveness of their conversions and components on the racetrack, which means the sport quickly gained popularity. It didn't take long until racing vehicles designed specifically for this discipline began appearing and TimeAttack became known as motorsport throughout the world.
National racing series can now be found all over the world. In addition to the USA, Great Britain, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand and Australia, the TimeAttack Championship has also been held in Cyprus since 2011.
